SHOOT SMART RULES
General Safety Rules
- Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.
- Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
- Always keep the firearm unloaded until ready to use.
- Know your target and what is beyond.
- Make sure the firearm is safe to operate.
- Know how to use the firearm safely.
- Use only the correct ammo for your firearm.
- Wear ear and eye protection as appropriate.
- Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting.
Firearm Handling & Safety
Safe Entry: Unload all firearms before entering the building. Firearms must be cased or holstered; otherwise, the action must be locked open.
Loading Zone: Load firearms only within your designated shooting booth. Loading in the "ready area" or behind the firing line is strictly prohibited.
Malfunction Protocol: Never remove a loaded or jammed firearm from the range. If a malfunction occurs, place the firearm on the table pointing downrange and signal a Range Safety Officer (RSO) for assistance.
Lane Transfers: Switch shooters, not firearms. Do not pass firearms between lanes; if you wish to swap a gun, move the person to the firearm.
Cease Fire Command: Upon a "Cease Fire" command, stop shooting immediately. Unload your firearm, lock the action open, place it on the table, and step back behind the safety line.
Lane & Facility Conduct
Occupancy Limits: A maximum of two shooters is permitted per traditional lane.
Airflow Control: To maintain proper ventilation and minimize noise pollution, ensure only one set of range doors is open at a time when entering or exiting.
Prohibited Items: No food, beverages, smoking/vaping, or tobacco products are allowed inside the range area.
Waste Disposal: Do not place live ammunition or spent brass in the trash cans. Use the designated collection bins provided.
Ammunition & Equipment
Rental Policy: Only factory-new ammunition may be used in range-provided rental firearms.
Authorized Ammunition: FMJ (copper/brass), soft points, hollow points, slugs, and #4 buckshot or larger are permitted.
Prohibited Ammunition: No steel-jacketed/steel-core rounds, black powder, tracers, or painted-tip projectiles.
Age & Supervision
Minors: The minimum age to shoot is 8 years old. All shooters under 18 must be under the constant, direct supervision of a parent or guardian within the same lane.
18+: Those between 18 and 20 are permitted to rent and purchase rifles, shotguns, and rifle and shotgun ammunition.
21+
You must be 21 or older to rent or purchase pistol firearms, ammunition, and machine guns rentals.
Safe firearm handling is required at all times for the protection of our guests and staff. Shoot Smart maintains a professional environment, and our Range Guides reserve the right to refuse service to anyone exhibiting unsafe behavior or appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We appreciate your commitment to keeping our range a secure and welcoming environment for the entire community.
